Akasa and the coming war for the skies.
“Akasa is likely to disrupt IndiGo’s low-cost carrier industry, but only after achieving significant size. In the short run, this could result in a loss of top talent in the business and a reduction in airfares in some sectors. Hence, potentially affecting,” warned an unidentified senior official at the Gurugram-based airline.
“Akasa, on the other hand, is well-prepared to take on officeholders who are struggling with debt and high-cost structures. Moreover, because Akasa will begin with a clean slate and be debt-free, it may develop at the expense of airlines such as SpiceJet and GoFirst.
It’s almost certain that Akasa’s introduction will result in a decrease in fares on specific routes—as the number of rivals grows, so does the number of flyers. All of Akasa’s competitors could try to maintain market share by implementing price cuts.
